HPW's Rise in the West African Dried Fruit Industry

We're proud to lead the global dried fruit market while creating positive change in Ghana through sustainable practices, local job creation, and smallholder farmer support, all with the backing of FMO to scale our impact across West Africa.

At HPW Fresh & Dry, nestled in the lush Eastern Region of Ghana, we take pride in being a global leader in producing dried fruit snacks, including our signature sweet pineapples, mangoes, and coconuts, enjoyed by consumers around the world. Beyond crafting premium dried fruit products, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on local communities through job creation, infrastructure development, and environmental initiatives. Thanks to support from FMO, we have been able to scale our operations to over 1500 employees and increased our production to 4200 tons in 2025.FMO's involvement has allowed us to grow sustainably while actively contributing to local economic development.

A Vertically Integrated Model for Sustainable Growth

Our vertically integrated business model has enabled us to have a direct impact across multiple value chains. By sourcing fruit from both smallholder farmers and our own farms, we ensure a consistent and reliable supply, while empowering local farmers to improve their yields and fruit quality. This model not only secures market access for these farmers, but also allows us to monitor and improve the sustainability of our operations. For example, by working directly with smallholder farmers, we help them adopt more environmentally friendly farming practices, while offering stable prices that benefit both sides. The goal is to create a holistic ecosystem where everyone involved - from farmers to workers to consumers - reaps the benefits.

Study Confirms Positive Social and Economic Impact

Recently, FMO commissioned an in-depth study, conducted by the KIT Royal Tropical Institute, to evaluate the social and economic impact of our vertical integration strategy. The report highlights key outcomes, such as how our operations have led to job creation, reduced inequality, and improved the wellbeing of workers' families. It also emphasises that our stable market access has helped smallholder farmers improve their yields and fruit quality. However, the study also pointed out areas where we can enhance, such as improving our contract farming scheme to further support farmers. We are keen to take these findings on board to continue driving progress in the communities we operate in.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

At HPW, we are also committed to environmental sustainability. We continually seek innovative ways to minimise waste and optimise resources across our entire value chain. For instance, we have implemented water recycling systems, invested in solar energy to power parts of our production, and reduced plastic usage in our packaging. These initiatives not only lower our environmental footprint but also enhance the overall efficiency of our operations. As we continue to grow, we remain steadfast in our mission to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, ensuring our practices benefit both people and the planet.

Looking Ahead: A Vision for Sustainable Business

We believe our future success lies in continuously evolving to meet the needs of our consumers, workers, and the environment. With the continued support from partners like FMO, we are poised to further strengthen our supply chains, improve farmer livelihoods, and expand our product offerings. Our goal is to not only be a leader in the dried fruit market but also a catalyst for positive social and environmental change across West Africa. Together, we are proving that sustainable business practices can deliver strong economic returns while creating lasting benefits for local communities.
